A new release of the Windows Identity Foundation software development kit is designed to enable developers to use the resources in concert with the latest iteration of Microsoft’s development platform and tools. Windows Identity Foundation SDK (4.0) is currently available through the Microsoft Download Center, having been tailored to Visual Studio 2010 RTM and .NET Framework 4 RTM. Devs will be able to find download links for all technologies mentioned above at the bottom of this article.

“It is our pleasure to announce the availability of Windows Identity Foundation SDK 4.0 package, which is tailored for .NET Framework 4.0 and Visual Studio 2010. We heard your feedback on the necessity for out of the box WIF templates that work with Visual Studio 2010 and samples that work with .NET Framework 4.0. This package addresses these two requests,” a member of the Geneva team from Microsoft revealed.

For the time being, the only version of the Windows Identity Foundation SDK 4.0 available for download is offered in English. However, the Redmond company indicated that it was working to add support for more languages, although a delivery deadline was not provided for any localized versions.

Despite the fact that Microsoft is labeling the latest release of WIF SDK as Windows Identity Foundation SDK 4.0, the fact of the matter is that this is not version 4.0 of the software development kit. It is, however, an update to the SDK, which embraces Visual Studio 2010 RTM and .NET Framework 4 RTM, finalized earlier this year. Similarly, Microsoft continues to offer Windows Identity Foundation SDK 3.5, which, as you might have guessed, is tailored to Visual Studio 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5.

“We are glad to announce the complete localization support for Windows Identity Foundation SDK 3.5 today. Following are the languages we have localized the SDK to: French (fr-FR), German (de-DE), Japanese (ja-JP), Spanish (es-ES), Italian (it-IT), Russian (ru-RU), Chinese-Simplified (zh-CN), Chinese-Traditional (zh-TW), and Korean (ko-KO),” the Microsoft Geneva team representative added.
