Customers running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) can now download the latest cumulative time zone update from Microsoft Support. However, the August 2011 cumulative time zone update is designed to play nice with all supported Windows platforms and not just with Windows 7 SP1, according to Microsoft.

The Redmond company detailed the changes that the August 2011 cumulative time zone update for Windows operating systems brings to the table in a list which I included at the bottom of this article.

According to the software giant, KB 2570791 is a superset of KB 2443685 that was launched in December 2010.

In addition, the August 2011 cumulative time zone update “also includes additional time zone changes released as hotfixes after update 2443685 was published,” Microsoft explained.

Microsoft underlines that on top of changes that have not been released elsewhere, KB 2570791 also includes all the modifications introduced with such KB articles as 2543367, 2523087, 2519231 and 2515337.

Users that attempt to deploy KB 2570791 and receive the following error message “Update cannot be installed as a newer or same time zone update has already been installed on the system,” are getting the notification because the Windows Cumulative Time Zone Update for August 2011 has already been installed.

Microsoft detailed the updates “made since the previous Windows cumulative time zone update:

Turkey Standard Time: A new Windows time zone was created: Turkey Standard Time. The display name is "(UTC+2:00) Istanbul." The government of Turkey has decided to change the 2011 DST schedule. It will start on Monday March 28 instead of Sunday March 27. "Istanbul" was removed from the display name of the "(UTC+2:00) Athens, Bucharest, Istanbul" time zone.

Egypt Standard Time [Display Name "(UTC+2:00) Cairo"]: The government of Egypt has canceled daylight saving time.

Pacific SA Standard Time [Display Name "(UTC-4:00) Santiago"]: Sets the 2011 DST start date to occur in August and the end date to occur in May.

Morocco Standard Time [Display Name "(UTC) Casablanca"]: Sets the 2011 DST end date to occur in July.

Fiji Standard Time [Display Name "(UTC+12:00) Fiji"]: Sets the 2011 DST end date to occur on the first Sunday in March.

Samoa Standard Time [Display Name "(UTC-11:00) Samoa"]: Sets the 2011 DST end time to occur one hour later.”
