iOS game “What's the Word? – new quiz with pics and words” has dethroned Temple Run 2 as the #1 top free app on iTunes. The game is available on both iPhone and iPad and is said to be so easy to pick up that chances are “you already know how to play.”

With 296,107 ratings and numerous five-star reviews, “What's the Word?” has recently taken the #1 spot in the App Store’s hall of fame for free apps.

The game is indeed a no-brainer, though it gets tougher and tougher as you progress. It shows you four pictures that have one word in common between them. All you need to do is figure out what that word is.

Notably, RedSpell’s original word game takes the crown from Temple Run 2, the addictive running game that garnered 20 million downloads in its first three days as an exclusive iOS app for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.

The young developer couple at Imangi Studios responsible for the popular Temple Run mobile game can chalk up a new record that will probably stick around for a very long time.

The duo’s Temple Run 2, which garnered 20 million downloads in just three days since the game’s debut, is now officially the fastest downloaded mobile game in history, with over 50 million downloads in just two weeks.

Commenting on the milestone, Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi, said, “Temple Run has evolved into something so much bigger than us.

“The game has performed beyond our wildest dreams, and we are thrilled that gamers and fans have embraced Temple Run 2 in such a short period of time,” said Shepherd.

Temple Run 2 is a free download for all supported platforms, including iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.
