14 DAY TRIAL // A new version of VueScan is available from Hamrick Software. VueScan is a powerful scanning solution for Mac OS X that supports over 1,200 flatbed and film scanners and 321 digital-camera raw file types. It is compatible with Mac, Windows and Linux operating systems and assists users by automatically adjusting images to an optimum color balance, which reduces the need to work in Photoshop, or other graphic-editing programs.
Ed Hamrick, the head of Hamrick Software, mentions not only the changes occurring since the release of VueScan 8.5.41, but also 12 months' worth of improvements since VueScan 8.5 was originally released. The changelog goes:

Changes since VueScan 8.5.41: - Improved remembering cursor position for text entry in each tab; - Improved remembering cursor position after preview or scan; - Fixed problem with some Samsung printer/scanner/copiers.
Besides providing options for scanning faded slides and prints, batch scanning, IT8 color calibration and other advanced scanning features, VueScan includes a built-in color calibration of scanners, producing colors that look true-to-life. It supports more than 100 brands of negative films and requires Mac OS X no higher than Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) and a supported scanner. Almost 1,000 scanners are supported on Mac OS X alone.
As exising customers download the latest version of the software, VueScan will automatically recognize the user’s own copy of the program. They only need to install the new version over the old one. Upgrades are free in the first year after purchasing the Standard Edition. Upgrades are always free if the customers own the Professional Edition. VueScan constantly adds new scanner models as they are released by their manufacturers, while support for compatible scanners is improved on a regular basis.
