Hamrick Software has updated its software scanning solution, VueScan, to version 8.5.37, adding new features, as well as fixing a problem with scanner ICC profiles. Available for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux, VueScan can be downloaded and tried out for free, right here, on Softpedia.

VueScan supports over 1,200 flatbed and film scanners and 321 digital-camera raw file types. The application is available for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux and assists users by automatically adjusting images to an optimum color balance, which reduces the need to work in Photoshop, or other graphic-editing programs.

According to the release notes for VueScan 8.5.37, Ed Hamrick has been able to fix a problem with scanner ICC profiles not being applied. New additions include the number of pages saved in the window title (after file name), a 'Maximum' option to 'Input | Media size,' and an 'All frames' option to the Crop, Filter and Color tabs.

Ed Hamrick’s VueScan includes a built-in color calibration of scanners, producing colors that look true-to-life. VueScan offers options for scanning faded slides and prints, batch scanning, IT8 color calibration and other advanced scanning features, as it supports more than 100 brands of negative films. VueScan requirements call for Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) or later, and a supported scanner. VueScan currently supports multiple different scanners on Windows. Almost 1,000 scanners are supported on OS X alone.

Using the link below, readers can download VueScan to either try the app in trial mode, or update to the latest version. The software will automatically recognize if they've already purchased it. Upgrades are always free if they purchase the Professional Edition.
