A new flavor of the Twitter application is now available for download for the owners of Android-based devices, namely version 4.1.2.

The new app flavor brings along one very appealing feature, namely the synchronization of Direct Messages status across devices.

To be more precise, when a Direct Message is read in the application, it will now show as read in all other official Twitter apps, including twitter.com, mobile.twitter.com, Twitter for Mac, Twitter for iPad, and TweetDeck. Twitter for Android will show DMs as read if they were marked so in other apps.

“When you read a DM on your Android phone or iPhone, it will be marked as read in your browser, your desktop apps, or your tablet. And vice versa. Please note that syncing will roll out gradually: you’ll need to get the latest version of each app to ensure it works on all of your devices,” Twitter explains.

At the same time, the new flavor of the mobile client arrives on Android devices with better search capabilities, with expanded user results available for those who are searching for people on this social network.

“This account preview makes it easier and faster to find and learn more about the accounts you’re looking for,” the company notes.

“And if you swipe the preview to the left, you’ll find similar accounts –– for example, if you search for the MLB, you’ll see suggestions for ESPN, Ken Rosenthal, and other MLB-related accounts.”

Other new features in the updated application include:

- As you search you can now see user avatars and clear past searches from the dropdown menu - Richer search results indicate when there are new Tweets for your query and show account results with bios and social context
