Powerful BitTorrent client for Mac

Handled by developer Eric Petit, Transmission is a BitTorrent client similar to Vuze, or uTorrent. The piece of software is open source, while most of the code is licensed under the GNU General Public License, with select code licensed under the liberal MIT License.

Transmission boasts a simple, intuitive interface designed to integrate tightly with any operating system. The program can be downloaded and used for free on any machine running Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later and is a Universal Binary, meaning both Intel and PowerPC Macs are supported.

The latest version available, Transmission 1.74, adds better data recovery in the case of an OS or Transmission crash. Also on all platforms, a known issue exists – if a data file is moved, users are advised to stop the torrent instead of redownloading it. On the other hand, an issue that didn't list some peers in the resume file and in PEX has been addressed.

More helpful torrent error messages and a newer snapshot of miniupnpc are just a couple of more changes with Transmission. Also, DHT now honors the bind-address-ipv4 configuration option, as far as all platforms are concerned. On the Mac front, Transmission adds 64-bit compatibility, as well as the following changes:

- Queuing system will not exclude transfers with tracker warnings; - Links to original torrent files are no longer maintained; - Fix bug where changing the global per-torrent peer connection limit did not affect the current session; - Fix bug where changing settings through RPC would result in wrong values being saved for three fields.

Readers can download and use Transmission for free on any machine running Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later. The Universal Binary app supports both Intel and PowerPC Macs. Use the link below to grab the latest version of the piece of software available.
