Stable and Beta Channel Updates have been announced by Jason Kersey, or the Google Chrome team, via a blog post dated Wednesday, September 22, 2010 | 20:31. According to the Google staffer, version 6.0.472.63 is available for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux on the Stable and Beta channels, bringing with it a fix for direct loading of global function prototypes.

“Google Chrome has been updated to 6.0.472.63 for all platforms on the Stable and Beta channels,” Kersey blogs.

“This version contains a fix in V8 for direct loading of global function prototypes,” the post reads. Kersey offers this link to those interested in learning more about the bug in question.

“More details about additional changes are available in the SVN revision log,” he adds. “If you find new issues, please let us know by filing a bug,” the author concludes.

The latest Stable update for Google Chrome for Mac was last week, when the same Jason Kersey listed a number security fixes, and noted that version 6.0.472.62 included an updated version of the Flash Plugin with a fix for a security vulnerability.

The new version, 6.0.472.63, super-seeds the last, therefore includes that fix as well.

A note about Google Chrome release channels and updates

Chrome boasts a release system with three distinct channels: Stable, Beta, and Developer preview, called the "Dev" channel. It was introduced on January 8, 2009 when there had been only two channels: Beta and Developer preview.

After January 8, 2009, all previous Developer channel users were moved to the Beta channel. Developer channel builds are less stable than those that Developer channel users were getting during Google Chrome's Beta period.

The Stable channel is updated with features and fixes only after they are thoroughly tested in the Beta channel, while the Beta channel is be updated with stable and complete features from the Dev channel, where ideas get tested.
