The public Beta development milestone of System Center Data Protection Manager 2012 is now available for download to early adopters. Offered through the Microsoft Download Center, the Data Protection Manager 2012 Beta can be grabbed by all testers, without restriction.

However, those early adopters wanting to provide feedback to the software giant will need to make use of their Microsoft Connect accounts.

“In its fourth generation, Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2012 builds on a legacy of providing unified data protection for Windows servers and clients as a best-of-breed backup & recovery solution from Microsoft, for Windows environments,” stated David Mills, senior product manager, System Center.

“As a key component of System Center 2012, DPM provides critical data protection and supports restore scenarios from disk, tape and cloud -- in a scalable, manageable and cost-effective way.”

Testers will be happy to find out that the Redmond company has answered the prayers of DPM customers asking for better centralized management.

“Probably the biggest request was for a single console for the datacenter that reduces management costs and can fit into the existing environment,” Mills revealed.

Data Protection Manager 2012 Beta comes with centralized management and troubleshooting, as well as an additional collection of enhancements, designed to let customers make the best of their current IT environment investments, but also reduce the costs related to administrative tasks.

Microsoft Connect is the key not only to the System Center Data Protection Manager 2012 Beta Program, but also to the Community Evaluation Program for the release.

“The System Center team will be hosting a series of online meetings highlighting features and functionality for Data Protection Manager 2012 through the existing Community Evaluation Programs,” Mills said.

“Throughout the CEP sessions, you will be taken on a guided tour of the Data Protection Manager 2012 Beta, with presentations from the Product Group and guidance on how to evaluate the different features.”
