The Sysinternals Suite has been updated to a new version, Build 01.10.2009, which brings to the table a series of improvements to the package of well-known useful tools authored by Microsoft Technical Fellow Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell, software architect in the Core Operating Systems Division. The Sysinternals Utilities that have been updated in the new release include: LiveKd, BgInfo, ProcDump and Autoruns.

The above mentioned utilities show the following versions: LiveKd v3.1, BgInfo v4.16, ProcDump v1.6 and Autoruns v9.55. Other Utilities have been also updated recently, including Process Monitor, which is now at v2.7, and VMMap, which reached v2.3. One other change that should be mentioned is that concerning Filemon and Regmon, which have been pulled out from the suite. According to the developers, “their functionality is subsumed by the much more powerful and scalable Process Monitor utility.” It should also be noted that NewSID will be retired from Sysinternals starting with November 2, 2009.

The changelog for Sysinternals Suite 1.0 Build 01.10.2009 shows the following: - LiveKd v3.1: This update to LiveKd, a tool that enables you to perform local kernel debugging using the Windbg tool, adds support for systems with more than 4GB of RAM and now works on x64 systems even when they aren’t booted in debugging mode. - BgInfo v4.16: Bginfo now correctly reports Windows Server 2008 R2. - ProcDump v1.6: This minor update sets the thread context in a dump file to the thread that trips the CPU threshold so that its stack can be viewed simply by entering a stack dump command. - Autoruns v9.55: A bug that prevented some 64-bit entries from being disabled is addressed in this update.

Earlier updated Process Monitor v2.7 came in with a new option to the process tree dialog that enabled it to show just the timeline for displayed events. In addition, its use of kernel-based thread profiling on Vista offers better performance, and there are also a series of minor fixes and enhancements that the tool comes with. VMMap, a process virtual and physical memory analysis tool, comes with a fix for a bug that was possible to result in inaccurate difference-view reporting and with improved copy-to-clipboard functionality.
