Skype has just rolled out a new update to their popular IM and video chatting application, directing it at Mac users with a fix for crashing calls, and some code corrections for clients used in Norwegian.

Beom Soo Park makes it official on the Skype Garage blog, writing, “Today we've released an update to Mac.”

According to Park, version 5.3.0.1093 fixes an issue where Skype crashed during video calls, and a problem in Norwegian localization which could lead to client freeze.

“We recommend that everyone  upgrades to the newly released build,” he writes.

“Please let us know what you think about Skype for Mac by visiting our Skype Support Network and leaving us your feedback, or in case you notice some glitches then please report it on our issue tracker, see Issue Reporting Guide on how to report issues,” he adds.

Released earlier this month, Skype 5.3 for Mac was built to work with the latest version of Apple’s desktop OS, Lion.

Skype 5.3 was the first major release to add the ability to send and receive HD quality video.

Customers can use the Mac's built-in iSight / FaceTime webcam, as well as third-party external cams available from the Skype Shop.

Skype fully supports hardware like the Logitech C910, “to make video calls in crystal clear HD quality,” according to the Belgian company.

HD video calls work best on an Internet connection capable of upload/download speeds of 1.5Mbps, Skype says.

Skype has been quite busy on the Apple front this month.

A couple of weeks back, Softpedia reported that a new, free Skype WiFi app had been released, allowing iPhone and iPod touch users to pay on a per-minute basis for WiFi Internet access. Learn more here.
