Skype, the popular VoIP chatting service, has reached version 5.1.0.922 on Mac OS X, with new ways to identify active speakers, the ability to select recently called numbers stored in the dial pad, and more.

Outlining the key updates from this release, Skype Software says participants in group calls can now easily identify active speakers and select recent called numbers stored in the dial pad.

“In addition, we have fixed many issues including the iSight Firewire webcam detection problem,” the developers have confirmed.

With the new version, users can provide Skype with call quality feedback after a call ends.

“Thanks to all of you who have let us know about your issues,” the company says.

All the new features in Skype for 5.1.0.922 include:

· Focus on active speakers in group calls · Dial recently called numbers from dial pad · Contact groups shown in on the right hand side, allowing more space in the side bar · Call Quality Feedback · Several minor bug fixes

For fans of the service, Skype is running a competition to create the new Skype for Mac chat style.

From 14 April to 17 June, the contest is divided into three stages, each lasting three weeks.

Judges' Choice winners will be selected by the Skype panel, alongside the People's Choice winners voted for by users.

Judges’ Choice winners will receive an Apple iPad 2 (Wi-Fi only), a copy of CSS3 for Web Designers, and one year’s subscription to Unlimited World Extra.

People’s Choice winners get an Apple TV, a copy of CSS3 for Web Designers, and one year’s subscription to Unlimited World Extra.

There will be six winners in total running for the Grand Prize - an 11-inch MacBook Air, one year’s subscription to Skype’s Unlimited World Extra and, of course, the pride of seeing their chat style included in an upcoming Skype release.
