The latest beta, the third, for the upcoming SeaMonkey 2.3 is out. SeaMonkey 2.3 Beta 3 comes with several fixes and is probably the last beta before the scheduled release date of August 16.

SeaMonkey 2.3 is based on Gecko 6.0, the layout engine powering Firefox 6 and is set to be launched on the same day as the upcoming stable release of Mozilla's most popular browser.

"SeaMonkey 2.3 Beta 3 is now available for free download on the SeaMonkey website. We encourage testers to get involved in discussing and reporting problems as well as further improving the product," the boilerplate announcement read.

There are a few fixes specific to the third beta:

- If a page did not load and the Try Again button appeared, it was disabled after a second page load failure; - After loading an HTML file in Composer, red borders around tables were gone; - There were issues related to Sync with windows other than the initial one; After an update, tabs were restored but not loaded, except for the first one.

Overall SeaMonkey 2.3 comes with the same improvements and new features from Firefox 6, unsurprisingly.

WebSockets support was reintroduced with a more secure version of the protocol. WebSockets support was removed from Gecko once it became clear that the protocol could be abused and that the only way to secure it was to change some of the core things about it.

WebGL is also better supported in SeaMonkey 2.3 on Linux, as of Beta 1, while it's still not hardware accelerated, the feature works in more configurations.

There are also some fixes to the way SeaMonkey 2.3 imports emails from Microsoft Outlook. SeaMonkey includes an email client, as well as an IRC chat client along with development tools, on top of being a web browser.
