Download Free SQL Server Migration Assistant 5.0 for MySQL, Sybase, Access and Oracle

Customers looking to make the jump to Microsoft’s on-premise and Cloud data platforms can access version 5.0 of the SQL Server Migration Assistant to ease the migration process from their existing solution. SQL Server Migration Assistant 5.0 comes with support for Sybase, Oracle, MySQL and Microsoft Access, simplifying the transition to both SQL Server and SQL Azure.

“SSMA family of products has been improved to further reduce the cost and the risk of migration from Sybase, Oracle, MySQL and Microsoft Access. Our recent SSMA survey showed that 94% of SSMA downloaders would recommend the tool to others. SSMA products are available for free download and are supported for free over email,” explained Keshav Ramarao, Program Manager in the SQL Server Migration Assistant team.

As of version 5.0, even Sybase customers can turn to SSMA in order to take their data into the Cloud, in addition to those running MySQL and Microsoft Access. However, there is still no migration support scenario from MySQL to SQL Azure at this point in time.

But when it comes down to the on-premise version of Microsoft’s data platform, customers can make the jump to all supported releases of SQL Server, including the upcoming codenamed Denali release.

“This release will reduce the time to do a migration significantly. Some of the new features include:

•Reduced data migration time by SSMA exploiting multi-core processors and multiple-sockets.

•Globalization support for migrating non-English databases to SQL Server.

•Built-in support for clustered SQL Server environments in the SSMA Extension Pack,” revealed Microsoft Partner Ken Lassesen.

According to Ramarao, Microsoft observed an increase in SQL Azure and/or SQL Server migration trends, which was reflected in stronger demand for SQL Server Migration Assistant.

“Microsoft has observed more than 8,000 downloads/month of SSMA family of products in recent months.” Ramaro stated.
