Rail Planner for Windows Phone has been updated to version 2.4 recently, now being able to provide users with some appealing new features and enhancements.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Rail Planner was released as a premium real-time rail information application for all Windows Phone users in the UK.

The software was built with the rail commuter in mind, and offers all the features that regular train users would like to find in such a tool. The application is powered by the National Rail Enquiries, and has already been licensed by it.

Through Rail Planner, users can easily find live and up to the minute status of train services in the country, though Northern Ireland is not covered.

The app will deliver info on current location, estimated departure and arrival time from a given station, and the like.

Furthermore, the mobile application comes with a “Journey Planner,” which was aimed at providing users with the possibility to easily find the fastest route between any two stations. The feature also delivers real-time info on late running trains, cancellations, and engineering works.

The new version of Rail Planner packs a series of enhancements to the Journey Planner, now being able to provide users with details on calling points for each leg of the journey.

The release notes for the new application flavor include:

- Journey Planner now shows calling points for each leg of the journey (including real-time departure information where available) - ability to pin journey plan calling points to the start screen - service disruption information now shown in journey plan results - can now move favourite station tiles up and down on the home screen - improved support for new screen resolutions on Windows Phone 8 - improved handling for tile resizing in Windows Phone 7.8 and 8. - more options for pinning journeys to the start screen - miscellaneous bug fixes

Rail Planner 2.4 for Windows Phone can be downloaded from this page in the Windows Phone Store. The software costs £4.99 ($7.76 / 5.89 Euro), but a free trial is also available.
