Publishing tool QuarkXPress 10.0.1 is out for Mac and Windows, with support for OS X Mavericks and Windows 8.1, the latest operating systems from desktop computing giants Apple and Microsoft.

Available as a free update for existing users, QuarkXPress 10.0.1 improves stability and adds support for OS X 10.9 and Windows 8.1, the newest installment of Microsoft’s widely-used OS.

Before delving into the other changes in this release, developer Quark Inc. asks users to note that “reported image performance issues have yet to be fully addressed but will be in a subsequent update.”

Why didn’t Quark wait a while longer? Well, QuarkXPress 10.0.1 needed to be rushed out to address some critical compatibility issues with Apple and Microsoft software, but also to enhance text input performance and address problems related to PDFs with native transparency.

The new QuarkXPress correctly outputs feathering and glow effects, drop shadows, bevels and gradients, and offers on-screen rendering for outlined text and PDF output.

Other tweaks were made to OpenType font rendering, TIFF and PSD output and rendering, color profile, support for Adobe Illustrator PDFs with transparent objects, and more.

QuarkXPress 10 is a relatively new version of Quark’s desktop publishing software that uses a state-of-the-art Xenon Graphics Engine that takes full advantage of high-specced configurations.

“The Xenon graphics engine in QuarkXPress 10 has been engineered from the ground up to leverage the latest in processor technology,” according to Quark Inc.

“It utilizes the dedicated vector processors within each core of your hardware and supports multi-threading, SSE3 and Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX), so you can be confident in world-class graphics performance.”

PDFs, Photoshop, and TIFF images are rendered blazingly fast and at the highest resolution possible, thanks to Adaptive Resolution.
