14 DAY TRIAL // Jordan Mechner’s internationally known Prince of Persia game has been released on iPhone OS platforms, Softpedia can confirm. Dubbed “Retro,” the game is a faithful port of the original Apple II platform game. The success of the Prince of Persia series resulted in Guinness World Records awarding the series six world records in the Guinness World Records: Gamer's Edition 2008. They include "First Motion-Capture Animation in a Video Game" and "Highest Rated Platformer on PS2 and Xbox."
Released in 1989 for the Apple II and then ported to several other platforms, Prince of Persia surprised and captivated the player with intelligent puzzles and deadly traps, all along the path the Prince had to take to complete his journey. Last week, our site signaled that Ubisoft had posted an announcement on its website, complete with a download button for App Store access, although the popular game title was unavailable at the time of writing.
As of now, the download link provided by the European video-game publisher still doesn’t direct visitors to the App Store, but Softpedia has found that the game has been finally approved and is immediately available for download from the iTunes App Store (download link available below).
“For the first time on iPhone, relive the classic adventure that started it all!” Ubisoft says on its UK site. “A wicked Vizier has given the Sultan’s daughter a horrible ultimatum: accept to marry him in 60 minutes, or die,” the publisher adds, as it goes through the unchanged plot.
“You have been imprisoned in the lowest dungeons beneath the palace, and must now race against the sands of the hourglass in an effort to save your true love. Negotiate fiendish traps, engage in thrilling swordplay and use death-defying acrobatics to make your way through one of the most celebrated and influential video games of all time.” The key features of Prince of Persia Retro are listed as follows:
