Parallels Server is a powerful, bare metal hypervisor solution for server virtualization developed by Parallels Inc., a team of experts in virtualization software. Parallels Server provides great value for cost-conscious organizations looking to standardize and optimize their IT infrastructures, according to Parallels Inc.

The cross-platform software enables users to create virtual machines on computers with Intel VT-x and AMD-V hardware virtualization support that have a Mac OS X, Linux, Windows, or even no primary operating system installed. Parallels Server runs most versions of Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems side-by-side with a primary OS, and allows the user to make these virtual machines accessible for other computers on the network.

The latest version of Parallels Server (3.0.4920) allegedly reduces the time of starting a virtual machine with Mac OS X Snow Leopard the first time after its creation. Almost half a dozen bugs have also been addressed in this release. Parallels Inc. lists the following fixed issues in Parallels Server 3.0.4920:

· Fixed the problem with mouse and keyboard freezing in virtual machines running Mac OS X v10.6.2 Snow Leopard. · Fixed the issue when it was impossible to connect to a virtual machine via VNC and ARD after upgrading this virtual machine to Mac OS X Server v10.6.2 Snow Leopard. · Fixed the problem with black screens and BSODs in virtual machines running Windows 2000 Server and hosted on Nehalem Macs. · Fixed the issue when an error message about corrupted low memory was displayed after starting a virtual machine with Ubuntu Server 9.04. · Fixed the problem when Parallels Server Mounter was unable to mount a hard disk drive to a virtual machine.

Parallels Inc.’s flagship virtualization app, Parallels Desktop, has been recently updated to version 5.0. Formally announced via an official press release in November, Parallels Desktop 5 adds full support for Aero in Windows Vista and 7 through the Windows WDDM driver (including Aero Flip 3D), a more Mac-like experience in Windows applications through the Apple Trackpad Gestures technology, and seven times better graphic performance for games and 3D applications than the previous version with Direct X 9Ex with Shader Model 3 and OpenGL 2.1 support.
