OrbiterApps has released a new version of one of our favorite freeware programs for the Mac, Orbiter. The app acts as a quick launcher for the files, folders and applications you use the most on your Mac. It comes in extremely handy to those who need to access many places on their Mac on a regular basis, but don't want too many icons in the Dock.

Orbiter has come a long way since its initial debut. While not changing its interface much, the piece of software has received numerous under-the-hood changes and tweaks, mostly based on user feedback. New features like the ability to set icon and text size, as well as eye-catching visual effects made the simple Orbiter a complete and reliable Mac app. While no app is bug-free, OrbiterApps has been careful in listening to its users and tweaking the program accordingly.

It is the case with Orbiter 1.2.5, a “performance update” for fans of the piece of software. It fixes an error that prevented items from being added to Orbiter if their path was partly shared by another item already listed, as well as minor compatibility issues with Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard).

Following the release of Orbiter 1.2, OrbiterApps posted a message on its website saying, “It's been brought to our attention that Orbiter is in many ways superior to the Dock, although we still think it should be used in addition to it and not as a replacement. Of course, an optional transparency effect, multiple color themes and tag categorization come standard. So, whether you're looking to free up precious Dock space, or want a quicker, more efficient way of accessing your files, we think Orbiter is worth a shot.”

Orbiter is a Softpedia Freeware pick. Readers are highly encouraged to try it out. Use the link below to get the latest version of Orbiter available.
