The first update to Opera 10.60 has been finalized and is now available for download. Opera Software has yet to announce or release Opera 10.61 officially, but the fact of the matter is that the bits are already live on the company’s FTP servers , and available to users through the links at the bottom of this article.

One thing needs to be clear from the get go. Opera 10.61 is not a new iteration of the browser, but only a minor update instead.

“We are proud to present this new version of Opera that combines great enhancements to speed and stability while looking better than ever,” Opera Software revealed. Opera has been offering early adopters a variety of development milestones for Opera 10.61, the last of which went live at the start of this week.

On Monday, August 9th, the company produced the third Release Candidate for Opera 10.61 and all signs were pointing to the browser maker getting closer and closer to finalizing the first update for Opera 10.60 and making it available for download to the general public.

Users should expect their experience to improve with the advent of Opera 10.61. The Norwegian browser maker has spent time fixing issues in version 10.60, which was released in early July 2010.

Opera 10.61 Release Candidate (RC1) was offered at the end of the past month, with the company indicating that the next version of Opera is also coming.

At this point in time, Opera Software is also hard at work on Opera 10.70, which will be offered as an upgrade to Opera 10.6x, sporting new features and capabilities, better performance, improved web standards support, etc.

Opera Software offered a few highlights of Opera 10.61 Final:

“- Our further-optimized JavaScript engine is over 50% faster than in Opera 10.50.

- Enhanced support for advanced web standards such as HTML5 and WebM video is now included.

- Opera can prompt you to share your location, making geolocation-supporting websites more useful.

- Search suggestions for selected providers help you find results more easily.”

Opera 10.61 and 10.70 Build 3483 are available for download here.
