Microsoft has made available for download free resources designed to allow customers to capture and perform protocol analysis of network traffic associated with products such as Office and SharePoint.

In this regard, the Office and SharePoint Products Network Monitor Parsers are now available for download from the Redmond company.

Of course, the Office and SharePoint Products parsers are set up to be used in conjunction with Network Monitor.

“The Office and SharePoint Products Network Monitor Parsers are a set of files that extend the parsers in Microsoft Network Monitor. The Microsoft Network Monitor tool loads these files and uses the rules defined in them to analyze network traffic,” Microsoft informed.

At the same time, there are additional parsers available from the software giant, released through an open source project on CodePlex.

“We have added new protocol parsers and updated some existing parsers in NetworkMonitor_Parsers.msi. The supported platforms are x86, x64 and itanium.

“The Office and SharePoint Products Network Monitor Parser 1.2 version is only compatible with current 3.4.2455 version of NetworkMonitor_Parsers.msi,” it is stated on the parser’s page on CodePlex.

Microsoft finalized Network Monitor 3.4 RTM and launched the tool in mid-2010, after spending just a few months in Beta stage.

As it is the case with the parsers themselves, Network Monitor 3.4 is available as a free download from Microsoft.

“The Network Monitor Parsers project is now part of the Systems Infrastructure & Integration Gallery of the Outercurve Foundation. This is a milestone for the project, since the community can now direct the development through an independent Open Source foundation, with Microsoft a participating community member.

“We look forward to enlarging the parser usage community and attracting more protocol developers to contribute additional protocol parsers to enable interoperability among a wide range of technologies,” Microsoft stated.
