Apple seeds new Lion test build with a notably small focus area, no issues

Apple has released a brand new build of OS X 10.7.5, the upcoming fifth incremental update for users of its Lion operating system. The combo update is notably large, weighing in at almost two full gigabytes.

“OS X Software Update 10.7.5 is an update to OS X Lion 10.7,” Apple says. “Please refer to the seed note for more details and installation instructions,” the company tells developers.

According to those who are privy of the software, the build has no known issues and Apple requires developers to focus their testing efforts on Image & Media importing, editing, and viewing.

With such a short focus area and no known issues, the public release of OS X 10.7.5 is imminent.

11G45 arrives as a 1.93GB combo update, and weighs in at 1.16GB as a delta update (what will be served to end-users when development is over).

It is worth pointing out that OS X 10.7.5 and OS X 10.8.1 have shared a similar timeframe in Apple’s internal testing, but the Mountain Lion update has been out for almost a week now.

Although many customers have forgone the less-reliable OS X Lion for OS X 10.8, there should still be a great deal of customers who continue to use Apple’s 2011 Mac OS.

In fact, OS X Lion could well be the pillar of a few small businesses, and Apple needs to take care of all of its customers.

Plus, when iOS 6 is rolled out this fall, all OS X versions currently in widespread use will require a compatibility update. For Lion customers, OS X 10.7.5 should be that update. OS X 10.8.2 should do the same for OS X Mountain Lion customers.

We’ll keep our ears close to the ground for any clues as to when OS X 10.7.5 becomes available to the general population. In the meantime, you can use the comments to tell us which of you are still running OS X 10.7, and which of you have upgraded to OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion).

Update: Developers can download OS X Lion 10.7.5 Build 11G45 from Apple's Dev Center.
