Naughty Dog has just rolled out a brand new update for The Last of Us on the PS3 platform, bringing forth the Grounded difficulty mode as well as plenty of bug fixes, trophies for the new DLC, a free weapon, and much more.

The Last of Us appeared on the PS3 last June and impressed millions of console owners with its intense survival action as well as its delightful multiplayer mode.

Since then, developer Naughty Dog has released different DLC packs, which expanded the online mode, but also a single-player adventure called Left Behind.

After confirming that the game will debut for the PS4 this summer in the form of The Last of Us Remastered, the studio has rolled out a brand new update for the game in the form of patch 1.07, according to the official website.

Among the biggest additions is the Grounded difficulty, which should provide an extreme challenge for players as it's filled with really aggressive enemies. A free weapon is also included in the patch, in the form of the full-auto rifle, which should take 5 bullets to down an opponent in multiplayer.

As always, the firmware targets a huge amount of issues spotted by fans in the online mode, like the ongoing bug that caused invisible players or just displayed a black screen for them. They will now be kicked by the game from the match and will not advance a clan day or suffer any clan losses.

Supply boxes have also been revised, as players can no longer exploit them for extra ammo or gear, while those in Last One Standing mode should not get additional comeback items from the boxes anymore.

Multiplayer matches should no longer crash when players join in late, while those from opposite teams who respawn at the same time will not be teleported next to each other.

A huge amount of other bug fixes is included, while the melee portion has been tweaked. The machete now interrupts melee like a gunshot would in a similar scenario. It should also be more powerful than an upgraded 2x4 blank during an encounter thanks to a new three-swing animation.

Some weapons have been balanced, as the Burst Rifle now destroys armor in 2 bullets, while the first upgrade for the 9mm and Shorty guns requires 250 parts. The Hunting Rifle and Burst Rifle can be upgraded for 300 at the first level and 600 at the second.

The new patch is already available for download on the PS3 via the PlayStation Network and will be automatically applied to the game if you're connected to the Internet.
