League of Legends developer Riot Games confirms that a brand new update is live for its popular multiplayer mode, bringing forth an overhauled version of classic champion Ryze, not to mention a revised edition of the Back Cleaver item and a few tweaks to the Howling Abyss map.

League of Legends is one of the most popular multiplayer online battle arena experiences out there, delivering a huge number of characters and gameplay modes for millions of players worldwide.

Developer Riot Games has kept on releasing major updates in recent months, making sweeping changes to the game and rectifying a few tweaks that had a big impact on the regular gameplay.

Patch 5.8 for League of Legends is now live

Now, a brand new patch is available for League of Legends, in the form of update 5.8, which brings a small number of big changes.

First and foremost, the classic Ryze champion has been overhauled in terms of visual and audio effects, but also in terms of stats and abilities. He has a new passive called Arcane Mastery, which provides a shield and lowered cooldowns when reaching five stacks. The Overload ability is now a skillshot, while a new skill called Spell Flux not only does damage but also reduces the magic resistance of enemies in an area.

Many other champions have also received some tweaks, including Ahri, Bard, Blitzcrank, Dr. Mundo, Graves, Jinx, Mordekaiser, Sion, or Yasuo.

Changes to the Black Cleaver and Howling Abyss are also included

Besides these champion changes, the new patch 5.8 also brings to League of Legends a revised version of the Black Cleaver, which removes armor penetration, extra health, and a variety of other stats. As such, its recipe and build order have been tweaked, and a new unique passive is added, in the form of Rage, which adds bonus movement speed for two seconds after dealing physical damage.

The Howling Abyss map also got some tweaks with the new update, in terms of visuals, minions, and other such things.
