The folks at unicomplex gmbh have released a new version of their application that brings Gmail to the Mac users' desktop. Mailplane 2.0.9 Build 987 is a stable release, which adds support for the new "Inserting images" Gmail lab feature and addresses an issue where pictures didn't get optimized. The latter has been reported since version 2.0.8.

When version 2.0.8 (Build 985) was released last month, unicomplex gmbh had updated Mailplane's Spanish translation, while adding the ability to use the "Advanced attachment features" to upload attachments, for those who had Flash 10 installed. Over half a dozen issues were fixed with the release of Mailplane 2.0.8. Now at version 2.0.9, the software is reportedly more reliable, which is why users are encouraged to update.

unicomplex gmbh's Mailplane allows one to attach files, send optimized photos, instantly send screenshots and pictures from iPhoto, store passwords in keychain, perform downloads, and more, all backed by the built-in sound notification system, or Growl. Users of both Google's email client and Mac OS X will love employing Mailplane, unicomplex gmbh believes. The app also brings Google Mail's SPAM protection, endless storage and global access, and the UI friendliness of one's Mac.

Mailplane can be set to play a sound when new items arrive, and to show the number of unread messages in the application icon, while the iPhoto plugin allows users to send pictures from iPhoto by selecting their images and pressing the email button. And because Mailplane uses Growl, it lets them know that they have new mail the instant it arrives. Also, Mailplane shows a Growl notification when someone wants to chat. The Google Talk Gadget is then displayed in a separate window, offering Video / Photo Preview and other features. Use the link below to download the latest version of Mailplane available.
