Adds tweaks and fixes, as well as a revamped user interface

SecureMac has just announced MacScan 2.6.1, an update to the company's anti-spyware application for Mac OS X. According to the release notes, this new version of MacScan enhances protection against the latest threats for Mac OS X, while adding usability enhancements and bug fixes. Additionally, SecureMac points out, MacScan 2.6.1 contains an improved user interface, plus the latest spyware definitions and tracking cookie blacklist. The full changelog can be found below.

According to its maker, MacScan can detect, isolate and remove spyware from Macintosh computers using both real-time spyware definition updating, as well as unique detection methods. Designed for Mac OS X, the program also manages “Internet-related clutter” on your computer, SecureMac says. MacScan runs on OS X versions as low as 10.2.4 or later.

New in MacScan 2.6.1:

· Fixed a bug in the MacScan Scheduler program that could cause a scheduled scan to not be set correctly. · Fixed a bug in the MacScan Scheduler program that could overwrite other crontab entries in certain situations. · Fixed a bug that could cause error messages during tracking cookie removal. · Fixed a bug where MacScan would appear frozen when downloading tracking cookie blacklist updates on slower Internet connections. · Numerous interface changes and improvements. · Support for the latest Spyware Definitions and Tracking Cookie Blacklist files.

Existing users can upgrade to MacScan 2.6.1 for free by choosing “check for updates” under the application's menu (MacScan), or by downloading the software again and entering their existing serial number. Without a serial number, the software runs in demo mode. MacScan costs $29.99.

SecureMac also offers a MacScan Family Pack, which lets Mac users install the software on an additional two computers for a total of three protected systems, for just ten extra bucks ($39.99)
