Microsoft has made available for download a number of new resources designed to add extra value to Forefront Endpoint Protection (FEP) 2010 Update Rollup 1.

Customers need only make their way to the Microsoft Download Center and grab the Forefront Endpoint Protection (FEP) 2010 Update Rollup 1 Tools.

“These free downloads make it easier for Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 Update Rollup 1 customers to use Group Policy for centralized management, provide optimized settings for various server roles, and diagnose and troubleshoot support issues,” the software giant revealed.

The Forefront Endpoint Protection Group Policy Tool is designed to simplify work with FEP policy XML file, in relation to Group Policy Object (GPO) in an Active Directory domain, or a Local Group Policy object in Windows.

The FEP Server Role Policies for Use with System Center Configuration Manager 2007 are also FEP policy XML files, set up to optimize server roles with preconfigured settings. Customers can guess that FEP Server Role Policies for Use with Group Policy serve a similar purpose.

Here are additional details from the company on the remaining Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 UR1 tools:

“Microsoft Security Support tool - The Microsoft Security Support tool gathers support data necessary to help the Microsoft Support team to resolve support issues.

FEP 2010 Best Practices Analyzer - The Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 Best Practices Analyzer (BPA) tool scans the System Center Configuration Manager 2007 and Forefront Endpoint Protection (FEP) configuration settings to identify problematic or missing settings that may prevent optimized use of FEP.

Definition Update Automation Tool for Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 - This tool enables you to automate downloading and publication of FEP definition updates using the Configuration Manager 2007 Software Update feature.”

Going forward, Forefront Endpoint Protection will become a thing of the past, at least brand-wise.

With the next iteration of the product, the Redmond company transitioned the solution from Forefront to System Center.

This is why the next iteration is dubbed System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection and not Forefront Endpoint Protection 2012.

A release Candidate (RC) of System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection is currently available for download to early adopters, alongside the RC for System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, since the two are designed to work in tandem.
