New Features added in Sandvox 1.5.4 include automatic support for the JS-Kit comments service to the Site Inspector. According to Karelia, this supercedes Haloscan, though Haloscan will continue to be supported for pre-existing sites with a valid Haloscan ID. Users are also encouraged to use the Site Inspector to (re)activate the appropriate comments system for their site. As such, JS-Kit is to be used for new sites, while JS-Kit or Haloscan is aimed at older sites already registered with Haloscan, Karelia says. Additionally, Sandvox now warns when a timed trial license has expired, this being the last enhancement included with Sandvox 1.5.4 Build 9259.
With more than 40 site designs available (with viewport settings for optimized display on iPhones), Sandvox's text, image, audio, and video sharing features are true assets for developers. Customizable banners that let you personalize your site have been added (added in Sandvox 1.2.7), while a comprehensive and completely integrated Help feature boasts more than 200 articles, including step-by-step "How do I...?" pages, etc.
"Sandvox is a great piece of software. It should be used in a software design class as an excellent example of an intuitive user interface. The features are accessible to basic users, but it is also powerful enough for advanced web designers. I've tried out different web publishing software, but they don't come close to Sandvox when compared on features, ease-of-use, and pricing," says Andrew Soh, a California resident and user of Kareila's website creation tool.
