Two new releases of Opera are now available for download. Opera Software has updated both its stable version of Opera, as well as the next Beta development milestone of the next major iteration of the browser. Opera 10.54 Build 3423 and Opera 10.60 Beta Build 3428 are up for grabs, the first aimed at all users of the browser, while the second is reserved for early adopters involved in the testing process of the successor of Opera 10.50.

“Opera 10.54—a recommended security update—was released earlier today and will be pushed through auto-update for everyone,” revealed Daniel Aleksandersen, from the Opera Desktop team. “There is nothing too exciting in the change log for Windows.”

With the release of Opera 10.54, users of the latest stable version of the browser are safeguarded against attacks that could have leveraged Opera as a vector for a font vulnerability in the underlying operating system. Microsoft has already released MS10-032 patching three vulnerabilities affecting Windows Kernel-Mode Drivers, which could have allowed for elevation of privileges attacks in the eventuality of successful exploits involving content rendered in a specially crafted TrueType font.

There were additional issues resolved with Opera 10.54, including an extremely severe problem. However, Opera Software would not detail any of the bugs and vulnerabilities patched with Opera 10.54.

At the end of the past week, the Norway-based browser maker released a new Beta milestone of Opera 10.60, Build 10.60. Opera Software is slowly making its way to the release of Opera 10.60 final, a browser iteration which brings to the table consistent performance improvements, graphical user interface tweaks, but also new features and capabilities, including the expansion the current HTML5 focus with support for WebM VP8 video codec, Geolocation, and other goodies.
