The team of developers at NeoOffice.org has released a new version of the full-featured, office suite of applications for Mac OS X, NeoOffice. Patch 6 for the 3.0 branch of the software brings default support for Mac OS X users to determine which module opens when launching the program. The latest update for version 2.2.5 is Patch 14, also available for free download right here on our web site.

Besides adding default support for determining which module opens when launching OpenOffice, the team of developers behind the open-source office suite was also able to fix half a dozen issues recently discovered with the software.

Those include: a possible crash when opening a certain .doc file; a problem where the Sun Presentation Minimizer crashes NeoOffice; a bug where the update check dialog window appears twice when starting with the -nodefault launch option; a problem that prevented RTF files with MacRoman encoding from being read properly; a problem where PDF export does not work with some fonts on Snow Leopard; an issue where Chinese text input gets lost when using the ITABC input method. Lastly, the NeoOffice.org team notes, Patch 6 works around a bug where Mozilla address books cause very high CPU usage.

The NeoOffice.org web site also reveals that 3.0.1 Early Access Program is planned to start on September 15, 2009. Since, the NeoOffice project is funded entirely by donations from its users, and since over half of the donations come from a small percentage of users, the NeoOffice Early Access Program is used to thank the most generous users by allowing them to download a NeoOffice release before the official release date.

NeoOffice fans should also note that, due to very low donation levels this year, the team responsible with the software has been forced to make severe cutbacks in the services that they provide to users. Learn more here.
