Move and resize windows on a Mac without using “the slow and imprecise mouse”

Helium Foot Software has released a new version of MercuryMover, a cool program for Mac OS X that allows you to move and resize windows on screen without ever touching the mouse. The new release includes a bunch of fixes and is immediately available for download right here on our site.

Keith Alperin, the head of Helium Foot Software, admits he's been pretty busy “working on contract during the day,” but still found the time to work on MercuryMover. The developer was able to fix an incompatibility issue with some NVIDIA video cards on PowerMac and iMac G5 computers, as well as some interface layout issues on smaller displays. Keith also fixed window centering when the display size changes. Lastly, when dismissing MercuryMover via its hot key, the previous frontmost application is now correctly restored.

“MercuryMover reduces the friction you feel when you use your Mac,” Keith says. “With MercuryMover, you can move and resize windows on your Mac from the keyboard, positioning them precisely where you want.” According to the developer, “by shunning the slow and imprecise mouse, MercuryMover empowers you to work faster and play more.”

Using MercuryMover, you can move and resize virtually any window without even touching the mouse. It's a great feeling to be able to do everything with your elbows stuck to the desk. Developers are sure to love using an app like this one.

As a preference pane app, MercuryMover allows you to tweak settings like move and resize by 1, 10, 100 pixels at a time (or to the edge of the current screen), or set your own shortcuts – 'cause maybe you want to use the shift and arrow buttons (default keyboard shortcut) for something else. The unintrusive heads-up display interface and multi-screen awareness sum up the main features of MercuryMover.
