One year after Microsoft gave the green light to Internet Explorer 8 downloads, a new release of the proprietary browser is up for grabs. The latest release of IE8 targets the embedded and componentized variant of Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3), referred to officially as Windows Embedded Standard 2009. “Internet Explorer 8 is now available on the ECE site for installing on a Windows Embedded Standard 2009 database,” Lynda Allen, Microsoft Embedded program manager, revealed.

Just as it is the case for the Windows client and Windows Server, Internet Explorer 8 is the latest version of IE available to Windows Embedded Standard 2009. The promise from the Redmond company is that IE8 will deliver the best experience in terms of performance, security and usability.

According to Allen, customers that will grab the IE8 download for Windows Embedded Standard 2009 will in fact be getting a database update. The refresh is designed to bring to the table support for a variety of languages, including: English, Arabic, Chinese (PRC), Chinese (Taiwan), Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese (Portugal), Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish.

Allen indicated a few aspects that recommended IE8 over other browsers:

“Faster: Internet Explorer 8 is more responsive with new pages and tabs, opening up fast and reliably. An end user can now get to the information in fewer steps. It provides a one click access to an end user's webmail, favorite news sites or other online services.

“Easier: Reduce the steps to accomplish many common tasks, and automate an end user's access to real time information updates. An end user can keep track of his/hers favorite sports team, news, weather with a single click.

“More Private: Helps protect an end user's privacy and confidential information.

“More Secure: Helps protect and stop malicious software from reaching end user's PC, and makes it easier to detect when a website is an imposter.”
