New versions of Google’s open-source web browser have been made available through the search giant’s Developer and Stable channels. The updates are tasked with plugging important security holes, and updating core components of the software.

As expected, all supported platforms including Mac OS X gain an updated V8 engine. Chrome 11 Dev now includes version 3.1.6.1 of the page rendering engine, while accelerated compositing is now turned on by default.

The Chrome 11.0.686.0 developer update also fixes a bug affecting the bookmark manager and other extensions, as well as an unspecified compatibility issue.

A Mac only fix is noted in the changelog posted by Karen Grunberg on the Google Chrome Releases Blog.

Apparently, Chrome developers have been able to isolate all bugs related to the new infobar UI. This Chrome 11 Dev release fixes them, according to Grunberg.

A known issue with this developer-centric build, HTML5 videos don't play on Vimeo.com, according to the release notes.

On the Stable Front, Chrome 9.0.597.107 is now available for download. As usual, the update focuses on security fixes, all of which Google details on the Chrome Stable channel.

The search giant in Mountain View, California congratulates the security researchers responsible for discovering the multiple vulnerabilities affecting Chrome on Mac OS X, Windows and Linux.

Google is also pleased to announce passing $100,000 worth of rewards in the Chromium Security Rewards program.

Soon to be promoted to version 11 as well, the Chrome Beta channel was last updated last week when Google rolled out Chrome 10.0.648.114 Beta, with a focus on stability and user interface tweaks.

Google Chrome requires Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or later and an Intel-based Mac. All versions of Chrome for Mac (Stable, Beta, Dev) are immediately available for download via the link below.
