Ableton has released a new version of its professional, music-creation software, Ableton Live. Currently at version 8.0.5, the Mac version of the software adds updated manuals and help pages, Cocoa support for Audio Units, and more.

Ableton Live uses loop-based production methods, but also linear production solutions. These include unique, virtual instruments and effects, which are just a click away in the program's intuitive UI. The program also works perfectly with Pro Tools M-Powered, according to the developers. A complete list of changes in Ableton Live 8.0.5 is available below, for both Mac OS X, and Windows.

· Updated manuals; · Updated Help Pages; · When using the APC40 Controller surface script, we check if the selection MIDI ports are the one from the APC40; · Improved graphic performance when using Live on Windows 7 RC 1; · On Mac OS X, Cocoa support for Audio Units; · Having an unfolded Live set file in the browser, now the tracks from that Live set can be inserted into the current set by double clicking too. In earlier versions it was only possible via drag'n drop; · Controller surface support for the AKAI MPD-18, MPK-25, MPK-61 and MPK-88 controllers; · Controller surface support for OpenLabs devices.

The professional music software costs a pocket-burning $500. However, the free trial version is good for 14 days and includes Ableton Live 8, Sampler, Operator, Electric, Analog, Tension, extensive, built-in, step-by-step tutorials and localized software menus, tutorials, and PDF reference manuals. All features are active in the trial version, as are all the instruments. Saving and exporting are, of course, disabled in demo mode. Ableton Live requires at least Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later, any G3 (or faster), and 512 MB RAM (recommended).
