14 DAY TRIAL // The team at NeoOffice.org has released a new patch for NeoOffice 3.0 users, addressing tons of user-reported issues, but also implementing significant speed improvements to Spreadsheet formula calculation and the menubar display. The patch also works around a bug where transparent pixels in pasted images are shown as black pixels.
According to the release notes for NeoOffice 3.0 Patch 3, the team of developers was able to fix the following bugs:
– a bug that could cause extension update check to fail on PowerPC machines. – a case where NeoOffice could crash when opening a certain .doc file. – an issue where the spinning beach ball pointer would appear frequently when accessing menus. – an issue that caused excessive CPU usage when quitting. – a bug where it was not possible to dock the slide pane in Impress. – a bug where menus are blank after an Impress slide pane is undocked. – an issue where slide handouts always print six slides per page in Impress. – an issue that caused form controls to be clipped out completely when printing. – a problem where spreadsheets embedded in Writer documents are stretched when using "Export as PDF." – a bug where "Export as PDF" creates incorrect output. – Thonburi font kerning errors on Mac OS X 10.5.
“Volunteers are continually testing NeoOffice and, as they find bugs, we fix them as fast as we can,” the people at NeoOffice say. “Since a full NeoOffice release is a very large download, we post smaller 'patch' installers that only install the NeoOffice files that we have fixed since the last release.”
NeoOffice is based on the OpenOffice.org office suite, integrating native Mac features. The full-featured set of office applications boasts the ability to import, edit and exchange files with other office programs. Most Microsoft Office 2007 Word, Excel and PowerPoint files are supported, as well as Excel VBA Macros. The software requires that you have at least 512 MB of memory and 400 MB of free disk space.
NeoOffice 3.0 Patch 3 requires a full installation of NeoOffice 3.0 and will not install on any previous version of NeoOffice. The patch includes all fixes and additions of previous patches. Similarly, NeoOffice 2.2.5 Patch 10 can only be installed over an installed copy of NeoOffice 2.2.5.
