NAVIGON AG has released version 1.7.0 of its MobileNavigator iOS app for North America. The app allegedly transforms a user’s iPhone into a fully functional navigation system that is every bit as good as the company’s multi-award-winning personal navigation devices.

The NAVIGON MobileNavigator fits in seamlessly with the operating concept of the iPhone, according to the developer, thanks to a faithful adaptation of the menu functions.

The software contains map material from the market leader NAVTEQ for USA (incl. Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands), and Canada.

Version 1.7.0 delivers five key additions, one of which is the Active Lane Assistant, a function that provides a realistic display of the actual course of the road including curves in a dynamic travelling animation.

“It not only shows you in good time which lane you need to change to, but also when,” says NAVIGON.

Available through In App Purchase, additional Travel and Restaurant guides can be had as well.

“If getting from A to B is not enough for you a variety of additional guides will assist you in choosing the best restaurants, hotels and travel destinations,” according to the company.

Sharing stored favorites between iOS devices is now possible, while a MyReport feature allows users to report changes in the road network simply and directly, by making an entry on their portable iOS device.

NAVIGON promises to incorporate reports into one of the newest map releases, once they’ve been thoroughly checked by experts.

Finally, NAVIGON MobileNavigator North America is now a universal app for iPhone and iPad: “Use NAVIGON MobileNavigator iPhone in an optimised version for your iPad,” the release notes reveal.

The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and requires iOS 3.0 or later.
