14 DAY TRIAL // Mozilla has released the second preview build of the upcoming Thunderbird 3.1. Thunberbird 3.1 Beta 2 brings a new quick-filter toolbar and better support for upgrading from Thunderbird 2. It also packs several bug fixes and improvements to stability. Thunderbird 3.1 is built on top of the new web rendering engine from Mozilla, Gecko 1.9.2.
“Thunderbird 3.1 Beta 2 is now available for download and public testing. This latest preview version of Thunderbird includes a new quick filter toolbar, a new migration assistant for users upgrading from Thunderbird 2, and improved support for Personas,” the release announcement read. “The main goals of this release are to test the new features introduced in this milestone and to find out about possible problems as users upgrade.”
Major updates in Thunderbird 3.1 Beta 2:
· A new quick filter toolbar; · A new migration from Thunderbird 2 assistant; · Better support for Personas; · Bug fixes for the upgrading from Thunderbird 2 process; · Some design improvements and fixes for auto complete, tabs, and the activity manager; · Stability and memory-handling improvements.
Thunderbird 3.1 is on track for its final release. It will be the first update of the long-awaited Thunberbird 3 and the biggest move will be the switch to the latest version of the Gecko rendering engine that powers all Mozilla products. Gecko 1.9.2 is already used in Firefox 3.6.
Thunderbird 3 was a major update for the popular desktop email client. It had been a few years under development, but its final release brought a big number of improvements and new features. Mozilla Thunderbird 3.1 is on track for a June 1 release, assuming no ‘show-stoppers’ creep up. A release candidate is scheduled for May 25 and a second release candidate will be issued only if problems occur.
