You'd be forgiven for forgetting this, but Firefox is not the only browser Mozilla makes. SeaMonkey has been around quite a bit longer than Firefox, previously known under the name Mozilla Application Suite.

SeaMonkey 2.1 has just been released, bringing with it several new features and improvements, some borrowed from Firefox 4.0, but some original to the web-focused app suite.

"The SeaMonkey project is proud to present SeaMonkey 2.1: The new major release of the all-in-one Internet suite is available for download now," Mozilla announced.

"Building on the same Mozilla platform as Firefox 4, it delivers the latest developments in web technologies such as HTML5, hardware acceleration and improved JavaScript speed," the announcement added.

"SeaMonkey 2.1 is available in 21 languages, for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux," it continued.

One of the new features in SeaMonkey 2.1 is support for preferences and bookmark sync, courtesy of Firefox Sync technology, formerly known as Mozilla Weave.

The feature enables users to backup their browser settings and data in the cloud and have it synced to other devices, bringing their customized experience with them regardless of the device they're using.

The Add-on Manager has been plucked from Firefox 4 and is a major improvement. It now lives inside a regular browser tab and offers a better overview of the add-ons users have installed.

Another feature coming straight from Firefox, this time from the older Firefox 3.6, is support for Personas, simple themes designed to give your browser an unique look.

That's not the last feature plucked from Firefox, SeaMonkey also includes the new Data Manager from the upcoming Firefox 6, which enables users to have better control of the type of data websites can store and access.

There are plenty of other new features, though many coming straight from the Firefox project, and if you're a SeaMonkey user the latest update is a definite must-have.
