One of the numerous updates posted by Apple the other day looks at MainStage 2.0.1 for Logic Studio users, which improves overall performance and provides numerous fixes and enhancements, including the Loopback and Playback plug-ins.

According to Apple’s Support section, issues addressed in MainStage 2.0.1 include the following: the Reverse option for Loopback now behaves consistently; pitchbend data is transmitted properly to external instruments; a recording in Loopback can be used to define the tempo for MainStage; the I/O plug-in is now available in MainStage.

On a more detailed note, Apple reveals that there’s more to the MainStage 2.0.1 update than meets the eye. Enhancements have also been incorporated in this release, according to notes posted in a separate Support article on the company’s website.

These enhancements include the ability to start Loopback with a Play action, while Loopback now has an option to transfer its tempo information to the Concert when its Sync option is disabled, and it derives its tempo from the first recorded loop. The Post-Pan option is now available for channel strip Sends, Apple also notes. “MIDI out is improved to make it possible to send program changes via Mapping, and to allow MIDI Start/Stop/Continue messages to be sent on patch changes to external channel strips,” the changelog also says.

“Love the sound you got on your recording? MainStage 2 makes it easy to bring all the same instruments and effects to the stage,” Apple adds, describing the tool used for live performances using Logic Studio. “You can even expand your show with live loops or prerecorded backing tracks. With the Mac as the core of your live rig, setup is faster, teardown is faster, and everything in between is more reliable. You can completely customize your layout, from the number, type, size, and color of the controls to the parameters they manipulate. And you can instantly assign onscreen controls to the faders, knobs, and switches on your hardware for hands-on control.”
