Apple is notifying select developers running OS X 10.7 that a new version of the Lion Developer Preview 2 is now available with support for Xcode 4.1 Developer Preview 3, as well as other tweaks and alterations.

Sources close to Softpedia say the update in question will appear as available for those running the latest Developer Preview build (11A419) of Lion on a supported machine.

Apple is apparently issuing this update with a primary focus on offering support for Xcode 4.1 Developer Preview 3, which programmers can use to write iOS and Mac code using Lion.

Apple’s emailed message to developers has been reproduced below:

Download the Update by Running Software Update.

From systems that have developer preview 2 of Lion or Lion Server installed, run Software Update and download Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2 Update. You must also download Xcode 4.1 Developer Preview 3 available from the Mac Dev Center to build apps with this version of Lion.

If you have not yet downloaded developer preview 2 of Lion and Lion Server, get your redemption code from the Mac Dev Center then proceed to the Mac App Store to redeem your code and download Lion.

Mac OS X Lion is the next major version of Apple’s desktop operating system which, for the first time, integrates core iOS elements to offer a more natural computing experience.

Lion will launch to the public this summer with new features like Mission Control, Launchpad, Versions and Auto Save, new iterations of Mail, Safari and the Mac App Store, as well as other updated services and apps.

Softpedia has an extensive coverage of the noteworthy additions in Lion on its section dedicated to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Features, which we encourage every Mac fan to check out.
