Instapaper, the service that lets you save web pages for offline reading, has received a makeover on Apple iOS platforms, with a completely redesigned iPad list interface, a black-and-white theme on iPhone, and tons more features.

Developed by Marco Arment, the iOS Instapaper app comes in extremely handy on both iPad and iPhone for long articles / blog posts that you find just when you can’t spare any time to read.

You can use it to saves web pages as text only, stripping away the desktop-style layout to optimize for your screen, and you can adjust fonts, text sizes, line spacing, and margins.

There’s a dark mode and brightness control for night reading, and you get Folders for organization. There are lots of other cool features, but there are just too many to mention in a news piece that’s actually being posted to highlight some enhancements thanks to a recent update.

Instapaper 4.0 is here with a completely redesigned iPad interface as a grid with sidebar. The same app displays a black-and-white theme on the iPhone’s smaller 3.5-inch screen.

You can now multi-select articles in list to archive, delete, or move in bulk, as well as to search your $1/month subscription.

An App Directory available in the app’s settings menu lists other applications that integrate with Instapaper. Hardware brightness control is available with iOS 5.

You now get article authors, published dates, and site titles (availability for some sources will increase over time, according to the developer), and there’s a new "Friends" section that lets you browse all recent links posted to Facebook, Twitter timeline, and Tumblr.

According to Marco Arment, there are some iPhone-only features too. These include:

- [iPhone] Option to hide the status bar while reading (hidden by default) - [iPhone] Redesigned font (ᴀA) panel to be like iPad's - [iPhone] Redesigned Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, Pinboard, Evernote share forms
