SHAPE Services, the only company with apps that have reached top rankings in four iTunes App Store categories (Social Networking, Business, Utilities and Productivity), has released IM+ 4.7, an update to its popular instant messaging app for iOS devices.

SHAPE's IM+ app is a popular instant messaging client for both iPhone and iPod touch users, as well as for owners of an Apple iPad.

The app supports numerous instant messaging protocols (including Yahoo, AIM, MSN etc.) and has an intuitive interface which allows users to keep their buddies lists organized and always at hand for instant chatting.

“Now with iOS 4.2 fast app switching! IM+ will keep you connected to GTalk, Yahoo, MSN/Live Messenger, AIM/iChat, ICQ, MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, and Jabber,” SHAPE Services says in the app’s updated description over at the iTunes App Store.

“No pre-registration required. Just enter your account in the IM network and start the chat right away,” the company adds.

Version 4.7 delivers Typing Notifications support; multi-protocol instant messaging app with iOS 4.2 multitasking; free photo, voice, video, and IM sending; speech recognition; custom status and geo-location; a built-in browser; and bugfixes and performance improvements.

iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users can send photos, voice messages, videos, and instant messages for free, saving on MMS/SMS.

Voice messages are sent as MP3 files and can be played back on any Mac, PC, or mobile device that supports the format.

Users can create their own status messages, or use geo-location to update their status so that their friends can see where they are and easily locate them on a map.

Thanks to multitasking and the built-in web browser, IM+ users can surf the web and open links from conversations without leaving IM+.

IM+ is also the only IM app in Apple’s App Store to deliver “awesome animated emoticons!” according to SHAPE Services.
