Google has rolled out a new version of Chrome for the testing community, adding a number cosmetic changes, stability fixes, and documenting a number of known issues with the browser. Chrome is based on the WebKit layout engine and application framework.

Jason Kersey, reporting for Google, announced late last week that the Chrome Dev Channel had been updated to 6.0.472.25 for all platforms. Kersey said the new version included the following changes:

· For all platforms: UI Updates; stability fixes · Affecting Windows users only: (Issue 50577) Launching Chrome after installing may not work correctly if other browsers are running and set as default · Known Issues are documented as follows: - (Issue 51187) Drag and Drop of large file may result in crash - (Issue 51325) Home button on Linux has no image

As usual, fans of the WebKit-based Chrome are encouraged to check with the svn log of all revisions for more details about additional changes. Softpedia Readers can obtain the latest version of Google Chrome for Mac via the download link below. Chrome for Mac works on Intel machines only, and requires Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or later.

A note about Google Chrome Dev releases

Google Chrome is a free and easy to use browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, easier and safer. This release is not appropriate for general consumer use. Several features are unavailable at this time. "Download this only if you are a developer or take great pleasure in incomplete, unpredictable, and potentially crashing software," the Chrome development team says.

The latest stable version of Chrome (also available for download via the above link) is 5.0.375.125. The release patched a number of security holes, but also deployed workarounds for two critical vulnerabilities where the root cause lied in external components, when Google announced it in July.
