The Google Chrome Dev Channel has been updated to version 5.0.356.0 for Mac OS X, Google’s Anthony Laforge reports. The same version number is listed for Windows and Linux installments of the browser, as well as Google Chrome Frame. Google Chrome is a lightweight web browser based on the WebKit layout engine and application framework.

“The Dev channel has been updated to 5.0.356.0 for Mac,” Anthony Laforge, of the Google Chrome development team, writes. On the Mac side, Google has implemented Mac Address Book “me” card integration with Autofill, and made various improvements to the bookmark folder menus, according to the changelog.

Beach ball/performance issues with the cookie manager have been addressed. Better integration with host (InternetExplorer) popup blocker is also confirmed. As usual, details about additional changes are available in the svn log of all revisions, Laforge notes.

Earlier this week, a post by Mark Larson, also of the Google Chrome Team, revealed that Google Chrome 5.0.342.5 had been released to the Dev channel on all platforms. As far as Mac users were concerned, the release featured quite a few improvements to the bookmark bar, Larson said.

The developer also asked fans of the web browser to note that, “There’s still an issue with folders with a lot of bookmarks. When you open the folder on the bookmarks bar, the list may extend below the bottom of the screen and you won’t be able to access the bookmarks at the bottom.” The issue remains unaddressed. Larson, however, claimed that, “A fix is coming soon,” and offered a workaround for those eager to use the feature, saying, “Use the bookmark menu in the menu bar.”

Softpedia readers can obtain the latest version of Google Chrome for Mac via the download link available at the bottom of this article. Chrome for Mac works on Intel machines only, and requires Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or later. The Mac version of the browser is still beta software, therefore users are advised to exercise caution when utilizing the browser, or at least not rely on it for important tasks.
