Anthony Laforge of the Google Chrome team has announced that the Dev channel has been updated to 5.0.335.0 for Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms. Google Chrome is a lightweight web browser based on the WebKit layout engine and application framework. For those who run Chrome on Windows or Linux, see the full release notes here. Mac users, read on.

According to Laforge, Mac-specific changes include: fix Mac startup theme perf regression; add client SSL certificate support; enable Full Screen mode; adds grippys to the left side of the Browser Actions container to resize the container (they do not work yet, the development team says); show icon in omnibox when popups were blocked.

As far as still unaddressed issues are concerned, Laforge mentions Mac client SSL certificate support limitations. Chrome does not yet support server renegotiation attempts, according to Google, so it doesn't work with all websites. Other issues include: “client cert generation (the <keygen> tag) is not implemented yet” and “blocked popups can currently not be opened.”

Last week, the latest Beta channel update, signed Mark Larson, Google Chrome Team, read, “The Google Chrome Beta channel for Mac and Linux has been updated to 5.0.307.9. This release fixes a few issues to make the browser a bit more reliable.” He revealed that both Mac and Linux builds had received special attention in that a tab crash that could be triggered by visiting certain websites had been addressed. Two of those sites were reportedly wordpress.com and http://acid3.acidtests.org/. Other sites were said to be flagged by this fix, although they were not named.

Use the link at the bottom of this article to get the latest version of the Google Chrome web browser. Chrome works on Intel machines only and requires Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or later. Chrome for Mac is still beta software, therefore users are advised to exercise caution when utilizing the browser, or at least not rely on it for important tasks.
