Anthony Laforge, Google Chrome program manager, has announced that the most recent Chrome for Mac release can be used to switch back to the Dev channel. Over half a dozen changes are mentioned on the Mac front, including enabled extensions, with the build being available for both Linux and Windows platforms.

“The Dev channel has been updated to 4.0.288.1 for Linux, Mac, and Windows,” the latest update from Anthony Laforge, Google Chrome program manager, reads. Changes common to all three builds (Mac, Windows and Linux) are two fixed issues, according to his post. Those are: an issue that caused html5 audio/video content to not load, and a bug where content scripts would get run twice in some cases.

On the Mac side, Laforge makes an important note, saying “Use this build to switch back to the Dev channel. If you were running Chrome Dev builds before you must manually install this build to get back on the Dev channel. Previous 4.0.249.x builds are on the Beta channel and will not auto update to new Dev channel releases.” Other changes include:

- Extensions are enabled; - Bookmark sync is enabled; - Add Learn more link to “Aw Snap” crash page; - Add Esc as another keyboard shortcut for “stop page load;” - Don't show location bar in devtools and other popup windows; - Implement “Pin Tab” tab context menu item.

Besides the Chrome web browser, Google is hard at work developing an operating system bearing the Chrome label. Appropriately dubbed Chrome OS, the operating system will feature key aspects like speed, simplicity, and security, according to Sundar Pichai, vice president of product management at Google. Many believe it will be a direct rival with the operating system employed by Apple’s yet-unconfirmed tablet device.
