Google released the first update to the Beta Channel of its open source browser in less than a week after it bumped Chrome 15 from Dev to Beta. Google Chrome 15.0.874.51 Beta is available for testing to early adopters running one of the three platforms traditionally supported by Chrome, namely Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

Testers that have already had a chance of playing with the initial Chrome 15 Beta release will be able to notice a range of improvements in the latest Beta Channel update.

According to the Mountain View-based company, Chrome 15.0.874.51 Beta now deliver improved reliability to users. The search giant dealt with several issues that cause the browser to crash, and stability has been kicked up a notch overall.

Early adopters running Chrome 15 Beta on Windows 7 will no longer be irked by the truncated wrench menu bottom border, since this issue was fixed in Build 15.0.874.51.

There are additional improvements in the latest update to Chrome 15 Beta, including a new version of the browser’s JavaScript engine, with V8 now at 15.0.874.51 Beta. Karen Grunberg, from the Google Chrome team summarized some of the additional updates in Chrome 15.0.874.51 Beta:

• The New Tab Page bookmark pane has been reverted to the detached bar pending future improvements to the pane version.

• Only show NTP4 info bubble for upgrading users.

• Sync not enforcing server legal bookmark names when migrating to new specifics.”

Just a day ahead of the delivery of Chrome 15.0.874.51 Beta, Google also released an update to the Dev Channel. Windows, Mac OS X and Linux testers can now download Chrome 16.0.891.0 and take the release out for a spin.

According to the Mountain View-based search giant, the changes introduced into the Chrome 16.0.891.0 Dev release are less consistent than in Chrome 15.0.874.51 Beta.
