A new Dev Channel update of Chrome 14.0 is now available for download from Google, as early adopters expect eagerly the next major version of Chrome to graduate to the Beta Channel. For the time being, Google Chrome 14.0.835.18 Dev can be grabbed by testers worldwide, with flavors of the release offered for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, as is the custom with the Mountain View-based search giant’s open source browser.

As was the case with the past few Dev Channel refreshes, the latest Build of Chrome 14.0 brings no new features or capabilities to the table.

In fact, the changes introduced into Google Chrome 14.0.835.18 Dev can be characterized as minor at best.

According to the search giant, the focus with Chrome 14.0.835.18 Dev was to fix a few issues that impacted the print preview functionality.

In addition, Google also worked to resolve a range of problems impacting stability, although the company did not detail any fixes in particular.

Google synchronized the availability of Chrome 14.0.835.18 Dev on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux with the release of Chrome 14.0.835.19 Dev on Chrome OS / Chromebooks (including Samsung Series 5 and Cr-48).

Chrome 14.0.835.19 brings to the table more consistent changes, including: “more panel size fixes; print improvements; fix problem with sad tab page resource loading; fixed the size of take photo dialog,” according to Orit Mazor, from the Google Chrome team.

A couple of days ago, Google also updated the Beta Channel, pushing Chrome 13.0.782.109 to early adopters for testing. Chrome version 13.0.782.108 (Platform version 587.100) had been offered to owners of Chromebooks (Acer AC700, Samsung Series 5, and Cr-48) the day before.

More importantly, Google made available for download Chrome 13.0.782.107 Stable earlier this week for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, with Chrome 13.0.782.108 delivered to Chrome OS.

As far as I’m concerned, the rapid succession of Beta and Dev Channel minor updates is a signal that Google is preparing to introduce Chrome 14.0 Beta and Chrome 15.0 Dev.

This hasn’t happened yet, but I don’t doubt the fact that it will in the immediate future, as soon as next week even.
