The latest development Build of Google Chrome 14.0 marks a first for the Mountain View-based search giant. Google Chrome 14.0.825.0 Dev is an update that’s detailed not only for the traditional platforms supporting the browser, but also for next generation computers running Chrome OS. In this regard, Google revealed that early adopters testing the most advanced version of Chrome will be able to get Build 14.0.825.0 through the Dev Channel not only if they’re running Windows, Mac, or Linux, but also if they’re test driving a Chromebook.

For those users not familiar with Chromebooks, they are netbooks running Google’s open source operating system Chrome OS.

At this point in time, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) Acer and Samsung are both providing Chromebooks to customers. Chrome OS is an open source operating system that is built on the Chrome browser, providing a new type of platform, designed exclusively to let users live in the Cloud.

Google Chrome 14.0.825.0 Dev comes with an updated JavaScript engine, according to the company. The version number of V8 has been pushed all the way up to 3.4.12.1, in this latest Dev refresh.

According to Google, Chromebooks users are bound to come across some issues while using Chrome OS updated with Chrome 14.0.825.0 Dev.

The search giant explained that customers can experience browser crashes in scenarios in which they’re attempting to perform some File Browser actions.

Here is one example of an action which can cause the browser to crash: “Try saving a file from File Extension folder on any external pen drive/USB using CTRL+S.”

Additional Chrome 14.0.825.0 Dev crashes can happen on login, after the kernel of Chrome OS also crashes, the Mountain View-based company added.

Chromebook users need to also be aware that they might come across rendering glitches when visiting the NBC site.
