Google has released an updated version of Chrome, the search giant’s popular open source web browser. Aimed at testers, the new Chrome 13.0.782.4 Dev delivers a single fix, but one that should make it download worthy onto Macintosh platforms.

Earlier this week, Google rolled out a Chrome 13 build for the tester community to include a number of fixes and tweaks for all supported platforms, including Mac OS X.

Chrome 13.0.782.1, released June 1st, delivered print preview refinements, IndexedDB+LevelDB made available in about:flags, and a relocated Canvas 2D out from behind a flag.

In the meanwhile, testers noticed that Macintosh builds of Chrome 13.0.782.1 would crash on startup.

After receiving users’ crash logs, Google quickly worked up today’s Chrome 13.0.782.4 Dev release that contains a patch for this very issue.

Anthony Laforge confirms it on the Google Chrome Releases blog, noting that “The Dev channel has been updated to 13.0.782.4 on Mac to fix a start-up crash regression.”

A more reliable build of Chrome can be found in the Beta Channel according to Google’s Jason Kersey blogging on May 25th.

Chrome 12 was delivered with a relatively small number of UI updates and performance fixes.

Finally users relying on Chrome for day to day browsing and even work are advised to use the latest version of Chrome Stable.

Also released late last month, Chrome 11.0.696.71 is the latest version of the Stable branch that supersedes all previous releases while adding a few patches on its own, including two that deal with the security of the open source application.

Google Chrome 14.0 is expected to arrive any day now in the Dev Channel, with version 13.0 being promoted to Beta, and version 12.0 to Stable.

Chrome requires an Intel based machine to run. Softpedia readers can download any Mac build (Dev, Beta, Stable) using the link below.
